BOR – Bor Municipal Council Mayor Dr Agoot Alier Leek has banned the possession of illicit firearms and the sale of illegal alcohol within Bor town, in a move aimed at restoring public safety and order.
The mayor’s order, issued on Monday, follows reports of increased circulation of illegal weapons and rising criminal activities in the town. Dr Alier described the situation as a serious security concern that demands immediate government intervention.
Addressing the media in Bor, Dr Alier warned that anyone found in possession of an unlicensed weapon would face the full force of the law.
He said the municipal authorities, in collaboration with security forces, have launched a comprehensive operation to seize all illegal arms within the town.
“The order is intended to reduce crime rates in Bor town. The possession of illegal firearms among civilians endangers community safety, and the consumption of illicit alcohol negatively affects people’s behaviour,” said Dr Alier.
In addition to the arms ban, the mayor also directed an immediate crackdown on the sale and distribution of illegal alcohol, noting that its consumption has contributed to increasing cases of violence, accidents, and health complications among residents.
“Illegal alcohol continues to endanger the lives of our people. We must protect citizens from harmful substances that destroy families and communities,” he stated.
Dr Alier appealed to the residents of Bor to cooperate with local authorities and security agencies during the implementation of the new directives. He assured the public that the measures are meant to create a safer and more peaceful environment for everyone.
“We have disseminated the orders to all 20 blocks of Bor town, and the chiefs of those blocks are responsible for ensuring implementation. The goal is to make Bor a safe town where everyone can move freely,” he explained.
He added that anyone found violating the new regulations will face legal action.
“Anything that goes beyond normal behaviour will be handled by the law. We have made efforts to ensure people understand these directives so that implementation proceeds smoothly and lawfully,” said the mayor.
This is not the first time the mayor has issued such orders, but previous enforcement efforts have faced challenges. However, Dr Alier expressed optimism that this renewed campaign would yield better results in maintaining law and order in Bor.
