According to information reported by L’Observateur, the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mamba Guirassy, has taken a firm decision aimed at clarifying roles and responsibilities within schools.
In a circular recently made public, the minister now prohibits teachers from holding leadership positions within the Parents-Teachers Association (Ape) of their own school. This measure specifically concerns the positions of president, treasurer, and secretary general, which can no longer be held by teaching staff. L’Observateur indicates that this decision is part of the ministry’s desire to prevent any conflicts of interest and to ensure impartial and balanced management of relations between parents and the school administration.
Moustapha Mamba Guirassy emphasizes, in the circular cited by L’Observateur, that this reform aims to strengthen transparency within school structures and to prevent teachers from being in a position of judge and party in matters of management or representation of parents. Academy Inspectors and Education and Training Inspectors are responsible for ensuring strict compliance with this directive in all establishments in the country. They must ensure that parents’ associations quickly comply with the new provisions issued by the ministry.
