Elon Musk endorsed Andrew Cuomo for New York mayor on Monday ― and couldn’t help throwing in a childish insult about Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdami in the process.
Although the tech mogul doesn’t live in New York City and is unable to vote in the mayoral election, he endorsed Cuomo for the office in a truly problematic way on X.
“Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is,” Musk wrote, referencing Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. ”VOTE CUOMO!”
Mamdani had a nearly 15-point edge over Cuomo as of Monday afternoon, despite the efforts of the former New York governor and his supporters, which at times devolved into racist attacks.

It doesn’t appear as if Musk’s post will change any minds, based on the reaction to his post.
Some people pointed out the accusations of sexual harassment in Cuomo’s past.
Another person also reminded Musk that the way Cuomo handled the 2020 Covid pandemic likely contributed to higher deaths in New York nursing homes, which he tried to cover up.
Another person criticized the anti-Mamdani post for attacking the candidate and not his ideas.

One person had a sneaking suspicion that Musk probably did know Mamdani’s name.
But one Mamdani supporter who was probably aware that many voters probably find Musk annoying thanked Tesla’s big cheese for “the last minute help to Mamdani’s campaign.”
