HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman arrested in connection with an Orange County convicted murderer’s escape last summer pleaded guilty to helping him avoid arrest, court records show.
Jacobia Crisp, 33, of Burlington was arrested in Alamance County on Aug. 16, 2024, shortly after escaped murderer Ramone Alston was taken into custody at a motel in Kannapolis. Authorities said Alston and Crisp checked into the motel under Crisp’s name.
Alston, who is serving a life sentence for the 2015 murder of one-year-old Maleah Williams, escaped custody while he was being transported to UNC Gastroenterology to receive medical care. He was on the run for three days before he was recaptured.
Investigators said Crisp had been in a relationship with Alston for several months before the escape and drove him around while he was on the run.
On Tuesday, according to court records, Crisp pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to the felony offenses of harboring an escapee and aiding an escape from prison.
Crisp was sentenced to a minimum of four months and a maximum of one year and two months, according to court records.
Monique Brady, Alston’s sister, is also charged with assisting Alston in his escape. Court records show the case against Brady remains ongoing.
