It took investigators five and a half months to summon for questioning the person who reported the breach of election silence by, among others, Civic Coalition (KO) politicians Arkadiusz Myrcha and Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz. MP Dariusz Matecki gave his testimony and commented ironically: “Quick action.”
The first round of the presidential election took place on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Election silence began at midnight between Friday and Saturday – it was forbidden to campaign for any of the candidates.
However, Deputy Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha did not seem to care. On the morning of May 17, a graphic encouraging people to vote for Rafał Trzaskowski appeared on his Facebook profile. Myrcha deleted it three hours later, claiming it was due to a “graphic upload error.”
“This particular case should be handled by the prosecutor’s office, and later by the court. I hope these bodies will fulfill their statutory duty,” said Judge Sylwester Marciniak, chairman of the National Electoral Commission (PKW). A similar graphic encouraging people to vote for Trzaskowski also appeared on the Facebook profile of KO MEP Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz. MP Dariusz Matecki identified more such cases and notified law enforcement authorities.
“I inform that the notification to the prosecutor’s office regarding the violation of election silence will concern not only Arkadiusz Myrcha and Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, but also Gazeta Wyborcza, which, according to information provided by Facebook, on May 17 published a sponsored post targeting one of the candidates in the election. On that day, other politically themed ads were also published, but one directly concerned the election, and was a hate post directed at a particular candidate whose photo was visible in the content. The evidence in this case has been secured, but it is publicly available in Gazeta Wyborcza’s Facebook ad repository,” wrote MP Matecki the day before the first round of the 2025 presidential election.
How is the investigation progressing? It turns out that only after several months was the person who reported the case finally questioned. The pace of the investigation is truly glacial.
“Oh, I just gave testimony regarding that report on Friday. Filed on May 15, testified on October 31. Quick action,” wrote Dariusz Matecki today with irony.
O, właśnie w sprawie tego zawiadomienia w piątek zeznawałem. Złożone 15 maja, zeznawałem 31 października. Szybkie działania 🤠🤦♂️ https://t.co/nTkKlH4M8F
