Real Madrid Fan Dies of Heart Attack During Heated classico

Rabat – A Real Madrid fan died of a heart attack during the El Clásico match against Barcelona on October 26, at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The fan, Igal Brodkin, collapsed in the stands shortly after Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty in the second half. The penalty could have extended Real Madrid’s lead to 3–1.

Medical staff responded quickly and tried to resuscitate him. He was taken to Hospital de La Paz, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses said several fans tried to alert the referee, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois approached the officials, but the match continued due to the noise and confusion in the stadium.

Brodkin was known as a passionate supporter. His family shared that football was a central part of his life, and attending matches at the Bernabéu was a dream he had fulfilled many times.

The emotional intensity of the game was speculated to have triggered the heart attack.

The fan club he belonged to confirmed his death days later and announced a tribute during Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool.

They described him as a lifelong supporter who passed away doing what he loved most.

The incident has raised questions about emergency protocols in football stadiums. Many fans and commentators are asking whether matches should be paused when serious medical emergencies happen in the crowd. So far, Real Madrid has not issued an official statement.
