FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — Fishers just got bigger.

The Fishers government on Thursday announced it’s completed its annexation of 994 acres, or more than 1.5 square miles. News 8 first reported on the Hamilton County city’s desire to annex the area in July 2024. The first property tax impact will come in 2026, as the area gains a number of city services.

The annexation area, comprised mostly of housing subdivisions, is located east of Florida Road and south of 113th Street. It extends east to the Hancock and Madison county lines, and southeast to East 101st Street and to Flat Fork Creek Park. The Fishers City Council approved the annexation in January.

A news release issued Thursday from Fishers government said the annexation represents approximately 3,000 residents. Stats.indiana.edu says Fishers had an estimated 2024 population of 103,986, compared to next-door Carmel at 103,606.

Before the annexation, Fishers already had zoning jurisdiction for the area but required a sign-off from Hamilton County leaders. The city also provided fire and emergency medical services to residents in the area via a contract with the Fall Creek Township government. Fishers before the annexation also provided sanitary sewer service.

The Fishers health, police and parks departments began providing services to the area on Sunday.

Sometime in the fall, snow removal, and road and right-of-way maintenance will move to Fishers.

On Jan. 1, residents will start using the citywide trash and recycling services through a contract Fishers has with Republic Services.

Residents also can begin using stormwater utility services on Jan. 1.
