Active tropical wave threatens heavy rains in the Dominican Republic, where the ground is already saturated

The director of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), Gloria Ceballos, reported that an active tropical wave is affecting the national territory and will bring significant rainfall over the next few hours.

She recalled that October was a stormy month, with the passage of tropical waves and Storm Melissa, which caused millions of dollars in damage in various provinces.

In this context, Ceballos warned that “we have saturated soils,” so the new tropical wave, whose axis will move over the country in the early hours of Sunday, will leave significant rainfall accumulations.

The official explained that rainfall will be heavier on the Caribbean coast, in the northwest, and in the central region. Although this phenomenon does not have the potential to become a cyclone, it could cause wind gusts.

“The downpours will begin tonight and continue tomorrow, Sunday,” said Ceballos.
