Boakai, Macron deepen bilateral ties

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. on Thursday held a high-level bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, where the two leaders discussed strengthening Liberia–France relations, advancing development cooperation, and supporting Liberia’s role on the United Nations Security Council.

The meeting centered on expanding bilateral collaboration across key sectors and deepening Liberia’s international partnerships.

During the talks, President Boakai underscored Liberia’s historic legacy as Africa’s oldest republic and one of the four original signatories to the United Nations Charter.

“Despite this legacy, Liberia is the only one of the four countries that has never served a full term on the UN Security Council, making its current win on the non-permanent seat both symbolic and strategic,” President Boakai stated.

He called on President Macron to champion Liberia’s nomination as Chair and Co-Chair for four sanctions committees once deliberations move to the P5 (Permanent Five) level of the United Nations.

The Liberian Leader also renewed his administration’s focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, highlighting national initiatives that promote women’s empowerment, social inclusion, and support for persons with disabilities.

Both presidents acknowledged the importance of transforming their discussions into concrete actions through technical cooperation and follow-up mechanisms agreed upon during the visit.

In a warm display of friendship, President Boakai invited President Macron to a state visit to Liberia, which the French leader graciously accepted.

The two heads of state directed their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the modalities and timelines for the upcoming visit.

President Boakai expressed profound gratitude to President Macron and the people of France for their longstanding friendship and continued partnership in support of Liberia’s progress and transformation.

“We are grateful for France’s enduring friendship and for standing with Liberia on its path toward peace, development, and international cooperation,” President Boakai remarked.

The meeting marks a new chapter in Liberia–France relations, emphasizing shared values of democracy, partnership, and a collective vision for global stability and inclusive growth.
