Santo Domingo.- After heavy rains flooded major streets and avenues in Santiago de los Caballeros on Thursday, Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) councilman Robinson Cabrera criticized the city’s lack of urban planning and drainage maintenance.
Cabrera lamented that “Santiago is flooded like never before,” noting that dozens of homes, vehicles, and businesses were affected due to neglected storm drains and catch basins. He shared photos on Instagram showing the city’s main roads turned into rivers.
In a statement released by the PLD, Cabrera urged residents to help address the problem by refraining from littering in public spaces but emphasized that the main responsibility lies with the municipal authorities. The intense rainfall left several neighborhoods underwater, paralyzed traffic, and caused damage in areas that had never previously experienced flooding.
