JAMESTOWN – It was a final home match of the season that the Jamestown Blue Jays won’t soon forget.
Jamestown stunned top-ranked Century in four sets Thursday at Jerry Meyer Arena, 25-13, 19-25, 25-12, 25-19, the Patriots’ first conference loss in a year.
Lucy Falk had 17 kills and 19 digs for Jamestown (18-11, 12-5 WDA), who clinched the third seed for next month’s West Region tournament. Claire Marker notched 11 kills and four blocks. Amelia Newman had nine kills and 17 digs. Mari Anderson scored eight kills and seven blocks. Hannah Attleson made 29 set assists and served two aces. Jetta Peterson had 31 digs to pass 1,000 for her career.
Sylvia Taylor had 18 kills and 12 digs for Century (27-2, 16-1).
Falk had two kills and Anderson had a kill and a block as Jamestown started the first set with a 9-4 lead. After Century was within 10-8, the Blue Jays then scored the next seven points and 11 of the next 13.
Taylor had eight kills in the second set as Century rallied to even the match.
Falk blasted two kills and Marker had two as Jamestown raced to a 16-3 lead to start the third set.
In the fourth set, Jamestown started strong again with a 17-9 lead. Century came as close as 22-19, but Marker and Falk had successive kills and the match ended with the Patriots’ 31st attack error.
