Officials say Monday morning fire at Everett playground was intentionally set

Update

On Thursday, the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office classified the fire at Wiggums Hollow Park as an incendiary fire.

EVERETT — The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office classified the Monday morning fire that destroyed the main play equipment structure at Wiggums Hollow Park as intentionally set.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls that reported seeing black smoke at 2808 10th Street from several blocks away. Units arrived at the scene to find that the main playground structure was fully engulfed in flames.

According to a Everett Fire Department press release sent after the fire Monday, there were no injuries, but the main equipment was a complete loss.

The fire marshal classified the blaze as an incendiary fire, or a fire intentionally ignited where and when it should not have been.

The Everett Police Department is handling the criminal investigation, an updated release said Thursday.
