Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has become the world’s number-1 ODI batsman for the first time in his career. The ICC released the latest rankings on Wednesday. Previously, Shubman Gill was number-1. Rohit has reached the top with 781 rating points.
At 38 years and 182 days old, Rohit has also become the oldest number-1 batsman in the ODI rankings. He broke the record held by Sachin Tendulkar (38 years and 73 days).
Rohit scored a century in the final match of the ODI series against Australia, leading India to victory. Rohit scored 202 runs at an average of 101 in the ODI series against Australia.
Fifth Indian to reach the top spot in ODIs
Rohit Sharma is the fifth Indian batsman to achieve the number-1 rank in the mens ODI rankings. Before Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill have reached the top.
Kohli drops one spot
Virat Kohli scored 74 runs in the third ODI, but despite this he has dropped one spot. He is now at sixth position with 725 rating points. Shreyas Iyer scored a half-century for India in the second ODI played at the Adelaide Oval and has moved up one spot (from 10th to 9th).
Top ODI bowler
Josh Hazlewood has moved up two places to eighth in the ODI bowling rankings, but India’s Kuldeep Yadav has slipped from sixth to seventh. Spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets in the second India-Australia ODI and has also moved up two places (now at 12th). Meanwhile, Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan remains at the top of the bowling rankings.
