Foreign investment and sports tourism drive Cap Cana’s growth

Santo Domingo.- Cap Cana’s CEO, Jorge Subero Medina, announced that the luxury destination is advancing its development strategy through two key pillars: attracting foreign investment and expanding sports tourism. Speaking at the Dominican Tourism Journalism Award, Subero highlighted Cap Cana’s shift toward building international partnerships while hosting major athletic events such as the ATP 250 tournament, the Ironman 2026, over a dozen golf competitions, and marina tournaments.

He emphasized that Cap Cana aims to diversify its offerings even further, noting that the resort city has the infrastructure to host large-scale global events and is considering the construction of a cricket stadium—one of the most-watched sports facilities in the world.

In parallel, Cap Cana is experiencing strong growth in real estate tourism, with around 10,000 rooms currently under development—90% of them residential. Investors from Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, and Spain are leading many of these projects, drawn by the Dominican Republic’s economic stability and investment potential. Subero also praised the Ministry of Tourism’s efforts to expand international air routes and reaffirmed Cap Cana’s close collaboration with embassies and government agencies to continue attracting foreign capital.
