BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Rutland Regional Medical Center has announced they are shuttering pediatric inpatient care.
On Wednesday, the hospital announced it will be closing its five inpatient pediatric beds in its women’s and children’s unit.
RRMC’s CEO, Judi Fox, said the number of children requiring hospital stays longer than 24 hours has declined significantly, and nearly 50% of the time, the pediatric beds are unoccupied
She went on to say that maintaining services not being used is an inefficient use of staff and resources, as the cost pressures increase for the hospital.
This is the latest closure announcement made after Vermont health care regulators have sounded the alarm on the cost of care in the state.
Meanwhile, Copley Hospital will be closing its birthing center on November 1st.
