October the 30th, 2025 – Exciting news for Kvarner as new direct Zurich-Rijeka flights are launching in July 2026.
As Ex Yu Aviation writes, new direct Zurich-Rijeka flights are set to launch next summer as Rijeka Airport eyes more of the Croatian air traffic spotlight.
These two cities will be connected by two weekly flights commencing July the 3rd, 2026. These flights will be seasonal, but exceptionally so – operating only until August the 21st, which is still at the very height of an ever-extending Croatian tourist season.
The short-lived but still positive direct Zurich-Rijeka flights scheduled for summer 2026 will see the two cities linked by Helvetic Airways, a partner of Swiss. As stated above, they will run twice weekly (on Mondays and Fridays).
As Croatia’s offer leans much more heavily towards visitors with higher purchasing power, it’s not surprising that Swiss tourists are being targeted with these (very) short-lived but likely very welcome flights. The Kvarner area isn’t up to the same standard in the tourism sense as Dalmatia to the south and Istria to the north, but is up and coming as a destination in its own right, particularly when it comes to cruise tourism.
Whether or not the introduction of direct Zurich-Rijeka flights for such a short period during the very height of the summer season is a test to see the level of popularity they’ll enjoy or not is yet to be seen. With Rijeka Airport having performed poorly in comparison to other airports across the country historically, this could be the beginning of a brand new chapter for the northern Adriatic coast.
