by Grenada Food and Nutrition Council
The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) has successfully reactivated Fruity Wednesday, and the response has been outstanding. The campaign encourages Grenadians to swap processed snacks for healthy, local fruits every Wednesday — promoting better nutrition and national pride in local produce.
Just 7 days after GFNC relaunched the initiative, Chief Education Officer Dr Dianne Abel-Jeffrey issued a circular encouraging all schools to participate. In her message, Dr Abel-Jeffrey wrote, “Fruits are a natural source of energy, fibre, vitamins and minerals, offering benefits that artificial and highly processed snacks cannot.”
Since the launch on 10 September, participation from across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique has been nothing short of amazing. In just a few short weeks, 40 vibrant submissions have showcased creative ways in which individuals, schools, organisations, and influencers are incorporating fruits into weekly routines.
Here’s who has been getting fruity with us so far:
- Schools across the tri-island state
- Citizens showing fruit love at home and work
- Ministry divisions leading by example
- Company/Organisation joining the movement
- Social Media Influencers inspiring healthy habits online
From classrooms to offices, ministries to media pages — the Fruity Wednesday spirit is spreading, one bite at a time!
