Extraordinary Session on “Spenganje” Affair to Be Held in November: MPs Demand Full Investigation

An extraordinary session of the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held in November, following a request by 20 representatives seeking to discuss the “Spenganje” affair. The Speaker of the House, Dragan Mioković, confirmed that the request meets the procedural requirements for convening the session, which will have only one item on the agenda – the controversial affair that has shaken the Federal Government.

The “Spenganje” affair, which surfaced during today’s regular session, has been described by several MPs as one of the most serious scandals in the Federation’s history, warranting a thorough and independent investigation.

“In a situation where the top of the Federal Government is engaged in job fixing, it is difficult to discuss and make decisions,” said several representatives, highlighting the impact of the allegations on parliamentary work.

Minister of the Interior Ramo Isak emphasized that the controversy will not disrupt the functioning of the Federal Police Administration. He stressed that no one will be allowed to influence the ministry or its institutions.

“No one can influence the Federal Police Administration, nor the Ministry of the Interior, because I will not allow anyone to influence us,” said Isak.

The SDP Club welcomed Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić’s decision to personally request verification of the allegations, calling it an important step toward accountability.

“His move as Prime Minister shows that no one is, cannot and should not be above the law. We insist that the truth be established by institutions, not by individuals or political spin,” stated Damir Mašić, SDP MP.

Some MPs, however, warned that the scandal might be used to overshadow other irregularities related to employment within the Federal Police Administration and to suppress opposition voices.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the affair, while the Independent Committee of the Federation Parliament – responsible for appointing the leadership of the Federal Police Administration – is awaiting further information on the case.
