3-time NBA Slam Dunk champ Mac McClung signs with Pacers

Three-time NBA Slam Dunk contest champion Mac McClung has signed a non-guaranteed, multiyear contract with the Indiana Pacers, according to reports.

McClung’s contract with Indiana marks his first standard NBA contract after previously playing on two-way deals and training camp invites, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

McClung, 26, has played in only six NBA games since 2021, including one each for the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, and two each for the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic. The 6-foot-2 guard played two games last season for Orlando, totaling one rebound in 10 minutes played.

Despite his limited time at the NBA level, McClung has been a star in the G-League. He was named the G-League MVP for the 2023-24 season after averaging 25.2 points, 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, according to NBA.com.

To make room for McClung on the roster, the Pacers released center James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The 7-footer played in two games with the Pacers over the past two seasons after recovering from a torn Achilles.

The Pacers signing of McClung comes amid a spate of injuries among the team’s guards. Star Tyrese Haliburton is out for the season with a torn Achilles, T.J. McConnell hasn’t yet played this season while rehabbing a hamstring injury, and Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin are listed as day-to-day on the team’s injury report.
