MUMBAI: Indian sellers using Amazon’s platform to reach in global markets have sold goods worth over $20 billion since 2015. Amazon terms it as cumulative e-commerce exports. With more small and medium sellers tapping the reach of online to go global, the Seattle-based company is targeting $80-billion worth of cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2030, the e-tail giant said on Monday. “A rising number of Indian businesses are turning to global markets, supported by increasing global demand, a competitive manufacturing and sourcing base, and stronger digital infrastructure. As digital commerce opens new global avenues, Amazon Global Selling is focused on enabling Indian businesses to tap global demand and contribute to India’s export ambitions,” the company said.

E-Comm Giant Targets $80Bn Tally In 5 Yrs

The first $8-billion worth of exports took eight years but exports gathered pace over the past couple of years as digital became mainstream. Amazon through its Global Selling programme launched in 2015 enables local businesses to sell worldwide. Over 2 lakh Indian exporters have availed it so far to sell apparel, toys, furniture and a host of beauty, personal care items globally with the company having recorded a 33% growth in seller base over the past year, it said. The US, which has imposed a 50% tariff on India, topped the list of markets buying Indian made goods through Amazon in 2024 followed by the UK and Germany. Online platforms have made it easy for sellers to access more markets without the need for making heavy spends on logistics and infrastructure. Today, exporters from Karur, Junagadh and Haridwar are being able to tap global markets.
