Hundreds gather for Aetolian College’s annual Flag Festival

A strong turnout characterised the Aetolian College’s Reservoir campus’ annual Flag Festival with hundreds attending the event.

The Flag Festival, held ahead of OXI Day, was hosted at the Greek Orthodox Church of Thomastown on Saturday (25 October) with Father George and Bishop Evmenios of Chora leading the service that saw numerous officials and community representatives in attendance.

Students added a youthful colour to the event with youngsters from Aetolian College, Lalor North Primary School, St John’s, Panagia Soumela Whittlesea and Aristotelis Dance Academy all contributing to the festival.

The pupils honoured their Hellenic heritage, traditions, and the spirit of unity that the Greek flag represents as they took part in a flag parade and performed dances.

Among the many people present were Kris Pavlidis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Whittlesea, Helen Koukoulas, representing the Women’s Group, and Kosta Konstandinea, Apostoli Tasiopoulos, and Tom Anastasiou, representing the Seniors.

Also in attendance were local members of parliament Lily D’Ambrosio and Bronwyn Halfpenny.
