Gators’ Doran wins regional crown

Greenwood senior Justin Doran claimed the individual title in the Class 3A, Region 2 boys’ cross country meet held Saturday at Thomas Nelson High School.
Doran finished with a time of 15 minutes, 52.59 seconds to claim the individual championship and lead the Gators to a runner-up finish.
Central Hardin won the boys’ title with 32 points, followed by Greenwood (59), South Warren (77), North Hardin (90) and Grayson County (115). The top five teams advanced to the state championships scheduled for Nov. 1 at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Greenwood’s Camden Goodrich finished sixth overall (16:37.99), Miles Goodrich was 10th (16:57.99), Kayson Clements was 17th (17:38.37), Nicholas Clark was 25th (18:07.49), Eli Johnson was 33rd (18:47.03) and Sam Freeman was 37th (18:53.69).
Sloan Shupe was eighth in 16:42 to lead South Warren. The Spartans’ Calixto Alvarez was 11th in 17:03.64, Emmanuel Hernandez was 13th in 17:29.14, Eli Walker was 16th in 17:35.21, Levi McCammon was 29th (18:19.88), Evan Thompson was 38th (19:00.96) and Alex White was 41st (19:12.58).
Qualifying as individuals were Warren Central’s TyVeon Taylor (19th, 17:41.27) and Bowling Green’s Luke Duff (31st, 18:44.34).
Greenwood’s girls’ team scored 27 points to win the Class 3A, Region 2 team championship. South Warren was second with 57 points, followed by Central Hardin (88), Barren County (128) and Meade County (138). Bowling Green was just shy of qualifying for the state meet, finishing sixth with 144 points.
Allie Doran finished second overall in 19:08.91 to lead the Lady Gators. Greenwood’s Charlotte Johnson was third (19:25.14), Blaire Marr was fifth (19:44.89), Lily Clark was eighth (20:04.12), Claire Ellington was ninth (20:06.74), Sauyer Shirley was 10th (20:19.74) and Madison Hershberg was 14th (20:32.15).
Katelyn Best finished fourth (19:43.46) to lead South Warren. Cesca Poole was 11th (20:22.88), Bailey James was 12th (20:28.09), Jasmine Abacan was 13th (20:29.08), Molly Robertson was 17th (20:53.38), London Daniels was 26th (21:46.10) and Gretchen Seay was 39th (22:51.72).
Audrey Nuetzman finished sixth (19:51.81) to lead Barren County. Molly Beckham was seventh (19:56.49), Adeline Coleman was 31st (22:11.17), Mary Warren was 37th (22:48.81), Maria Dyer was 47th (24:00.28), Layla Robertson was 50th (24:28.27) and Raygan Wyatt was 61st (27:38.48).
Bowling Green’s Naomi Basham (19th, 21:20.80) and Lily Byl (20th, 21:33.23) qualified as individuals.
Class 2A
Warren East’s boys’ team turned in a runner-up finish at Saturday’s Class 2A, Region 2 meet at Thomas Nelson.
The Raiders scored 71 points to finish behind winner John Hardin (42). Breckinridge County (third, 106), Adair County (fourth, 122) and Thomas Nelson (fifth, 126) also advanced to the state meet.
Butler County finished eighth (207) and Franklin-Simpson was 10th (254).
Matthew Strode finished fifth (17:10.83) to lead Warren East. Sean Root was sixth (17:25.03), Nolan Hudnall was 16th (18:03.02), Peyton Poteet was 21st (18:41.03), Noah Cartwright was 27th (19:10.58), Caden Richardson was 32nd (19:24.50) and Wyatt Mattasits was 75th (23:41.50).
Allen County-Scottsville’s Tyler Marsh (seventh, 17:25.26) qualified as an individual.
Warren East’s girls’ team advanced with a fifth-place finish (109) behind winner LaRue County (42), John Hardin (89), Adair County (97) and Thomas Nelson (99).
Emma Meeks was 10th (21:16.46) to lead Warren East. Kendall Meeks was 11th (21:42.19), Chloe Bradshaw was 22nd (22:39.74), Bella Oatley was 27th (23:18.03), Haley Wilson was 45th (24:43.55), Peyton Malone was 58th (26:14.84) and Bristol Cowles was 61st (27:51.33).
Host Logan County’s boys’ team finished third in the Class 2A, Region 1 meet with 92 points to reach the state meet along with winner Union County (47), Paducah Tilghman (92), Webster County (98) and Trigg County (118).
Boys’ individual results were not available via KHSAA.
Calloway County (46) won the girls’ Class 2A, Region 1 meet followed by Webster County (54), Trigg County (61) and Hopkinsville (94).
Class A
Edmonson County’s Aidan Meredith turned in a runner-up individual finish in 16:46.52 to lead the Wildcats to a third-place finish in the Class A, Region 2 boys’ meet at Thomas Nelson on Saturday.
The Wildcats combined for 68 points to qualify along with winner Bethlehem (41), Green County (63) and Owensboro Catholic (76).
Also running for Edmonson was Jack Browning (seventh, 17:50.75), Blake Head (16th, 18:47.15), Brayden Garrett (23rd, 19:10.85), Dayton Chidester (25th, 19:14.55), Tanner Bates (28th, 19:36.48) and Lance Lindsey (42nd, 22:16.17).
Owensboro Catholic (17 points) won the girls’ meet, with Green County (78), Bethlehem (79) and Hancock County (99) also advancing to the state meet. Glasgow was one spot short, finishing fifth (104).
Area individual qualifiers were Edmonson County’s Mollie Johnson (eighth, 21:16.16), and Glasgow’s Brinleigh Mackie (14th, 23:16.43) and Anne Rhoades Pike (24:09.57).
