UTA772 victim on testifying against Nicolas Sarkozy: "I felt abandoned"

Amid the political noise surrounding the jailing of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the victims of the 1989 UTA Flight 772 bombing can easily be overlooked. The attack, ordered by the Libyan regime, killed all 170 people on board, including 54 French nationals. Despite the attack targeting French citizens, Sarkozy is reported to have offered to rehabilitate Muammar Gaddafi’s image and sought to lift an arrest warrant against Gaddafi’s brother-in-law, Abdullah Senussi, the mastermind behind the bombing. FRANCE 24 spoke to Yohanna Brette, whose mother was killed in the UTA772 attack when she herself was just a baby. She says Sarkozy’s complicity with the former Libyan dictator made her feel abandoned by her own country.
