LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One person is dead after an apartment fire in the central Las Vegas valley Saturday evening, according to the Clark County Fire Department.
Around 7 p.m., fire crews responded to an apartment fire in the 1400 block of Vegas Valley Drive near Maryland Parkway. When crews arrived they found smoke coming from the second-floor unit of a two-story apartment building.
Crews declared an offensive strategy, and knockdown was declared at 7:10 p.m. A primary search was completed by 7:14 p.m. and one person was found inside the room of origin and they were declared dead, according to CCFD.
A total of 39 personnel responded to the fire, including six engines, two trucks, two rescues, two battalion chiefs and one EMS Supervisor. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue also assisted with the fire.
The American Red Cross and Clark County Animal Control were requested to assist four people who were displaced by the fire and one dog.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians reported. The damage is currently estimated at $50,000, CCFD said.
Vegas Valley Drive was closed in both directions from Casa Vegas Drive to La Canada Street, according to RTC Southern Nevada.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
