PM Addresses UN
The Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, called for a global crusade against hunger, racism, terrorism, and the nuclear arms race. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Gandhi urged member nations to fight against “starvation in a world of plenty”, denounce racism in the age of equality and human dignity, and free the world of nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi also said that no chance for peace should be lost. “All of us have a collective interest in the preservation of the planet,” he added in his brief but eloquent speech. The assembly celebrations opened with an address by the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, followed by the Chinese Prime Minister, Zhao Ziyang.
