Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin split again, seemingly for good

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly ended their on-and-off relationship, seemingly for good this time, calling off their rumored engagement in the process.

Multiple sources told People that the latest breakup between the 35-year-old actress and 48-year-old Coldplay frontman “feels final this time,” despite being photographed in Malibu last month and holding hands in India in January, while Coldplay was on tour.

Representatives for Johnson and Martin did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.

The duo began dating in 2017 and they first sparked engagement speculation in 2020 when Johnson was photographed with a large emerald on her left ring finger. In March of 2024, a source told People the couple “got engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married.”

Following years of reported ups and downs, a source told the outlet that while Martin and Johnson “had issues and taken breaks in the past,” they were doing “great” last August. Days later, Johnson was photographed once again showing off her emerald ring.

Despite never formally tying the knot, Johnson considered herself a stepmom to the two kids Martin shares with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow: daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19.

“I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart,” she said in March of last year. “I think because I grew up in [a blended family], it’s come more naturally, but I wouldn’t have it any other way really.”
