Man, 28, drowns in Lake Michigan in Bronzeville

A man drowned in Lake Michigan Wednesday morning in Bronzeville.

Using a speed boat, fire department divers rushed to the scene and pulled the man, 28, from the surface of the water in the 3900 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive around 9:50 a.m., according to Chicago police and the fire department.

The unidentified man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim’s 55-year-old mother had been with him at the time, though not in the water, and she was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for observation, according to the Chicago fire department.

Area 1 detectives were conducting a death investigation.
