CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kayla Rae Reid, wife of 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte, announced Wednesday that she has filed for divorce after seven years of marriage.
In an emotional Instagram post, Reid shared that the decision came after “deep prayer and reflection.”
“I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds,” she said.
The couple, who met in 2016 and married in 2018, share three children: son Caiden Zane, and daughters Liv Rae and Georgia June.
Reid expressed her desire to navigate this path with transparency and authenticity while maintaining privacy about certain aspects.
Lochte, 40, has previously spoken about battling depression following a near-fatal car accident in 2023, which impacted his mental health and took a toll on his relationship with Reid, leading them to nearly divorce at that time.
Reid concluded her post by expressing reliance on her faith to find strength and resilience moving forward, thanking followers for their support.
“Sometimes we face trials we didn’t choose or see coming. And in those moments, we’re forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I’ve come to the understanding that staying isn’t always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself,” she said.
