CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – As animal shelters often reach or exceed capacity, a fairly new rescue in Kanawha County is expanding to be able to help more animals thanks to the help of a local business.
Destiny Davis and Cheryl Haggard didn’t slow down with retirement. Instead, they founded a nonprofit called Krazie Ladies Animal Rescue in Charleston with a goal to make a difference in the state’s growing shelter overpopulation crisis.
Because of this crisis, some shelters have had to limit their intakes to only sick or injured animals. The owners of Krazie Ladies say two of their own intakes are among those who had to be turned away from a shelter that had to limit intakes.
Recently, they’ve found themselves out of space for more animals, but a new donation from a local business is giving them a helping hand to provide for more animals in need. Dodrill Comfort & Energy Solutions donated a brand-new HVAC system for one of Krazie Ladies’ storage buildings, which allowed them to repurpose the space and turn it into a climate-controlled kennel that will give them space to house nearly 10 more dogs.
“This donation couldn’t have come at a more perfect time,” a shelter representative said. “We were completely out of space. Now, thanks to Dodrill’s incredible support, we’re ready to welcome those urgent intakes and keep them safe and cool as the weather is starting to get warmer.”
Krazie Ladies says the team from Dodrill installed the HVAC system in two days, and they’re thankful for the company going “above and beyond” to get the building ready for the animals. The nonprofit says this effort is an example of how partnerships between local organizations can make a lasting difference in the community.
“This isn’t just equipment. It’s hope. It’s relief, and it’s lives saved,” said Krazie Ladies. “The animal crisis has grown exponentially. We are extremely proud to be part of a community where businesses step up to support our mission of saving animals.”
Krazie Ladies owners say they operate entirely on volunteer work and donations. To learn more about Krazie Ladies and how you can help, visit their website or Facebook page.
