Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested after an encounter in Pratapgarh late Tuesday night. The police have recovered Rs 700 cash, a country-made pistol of .315 bore, two used cartridges, mobiles and a motorcycle near the site. The injured criminal, identified as Abdul Rab, was admitted to CHC, Lalganj for treatment. The cops also managed to arrest his accomplice, identified as Sahid Khan alias Babloo, a resident of Tilauri village. Cops recovered one mobile set, cash, and other valuables from him after a brief chase following the encounter.Police said a team of Leelapur police and SWAT were conducting routine checks near Babganj Road, Raghuwapur Road when they noticed two suspicious people on a motorcycle. The cops signalled the duo to stop, but they tried to escape. However, when the police team surrounded them, they opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in an injury to one of them. Police said Abdul, a resident of Tilauri village of Pratapgarh, has six criminal cases pending against him in different police stations of Pratapgarh.Police said that a group of four criminals, including Abdul and Sahid, looted Rs 1,000 cash and mobile sets from a man and his son on June 2 near Mattupur Bojhi River Bridge Road when they were going to attend a function. Following the incident, an FIR under section 309 (6) of BNS was registered against four unknown persons.
