Work has officially begun on the expansion of the Resnik–Divulje Maritime Passenger Terminal, a €3.4 million project designed to ease traffic congestion across the Split metropolitan area, Grad Split said.

The project includes extending the existing terminal by 53 metres in length and 6 metres in width, and the construction of three new berths for high-speed vessels, each 40 metres long.

The works, valued at €3.4 million including VAT, are 85% financed by the European Union, with the remaining 15% covered by the Croatian Government through the state budget.

Construction is being carried out by the company Pomgrad and is expected to take 25 months.

Prefect Boban described the project as crucial for reducing road traffic pressure in the wider Split area. He announced that by the next tourist season, a new coastal route connecting Trogir, Split and Omiš would be operational, alongside a maritime link to the island of Brač.

Port Authority of Split Director Vice Mihanović highlighted that the terminal already recorded more than 2,000 high-speed vessel arrivals last year.

The expansion, he said, would significantly increase that capacity without adding financial strain on local municipalities.

Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta noted that the project forms part of a broader multimodal transport strategy integrating rail, maritime connections, and the Park & Ride system.

Meanwhile, Kaštela Mayor Denis Ivanović announced the completion of the access road to the terminal, emphasising its importance given that Split Airport is on track to handle nearly four million passengers this year.

Split Airport Director Josip Čorić expressed strong support for the project, stressing that shifting part of passenger transport to the sea would greatly reduce congestion on key routes leading into Split.

The new terminal will also be fully accessible for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

The project was presented by County Prefect Blaženko Boban, Director of the Port Authority of Split Vice Mihanović, Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta, Kaštela Mayor Denis Ivanović, and Josip Čorić, Director of Split Airport Sveti Jeronim.

The Port Authority of Split extended its gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Split-Dalmatia County and the City of Kaštela for their strong support in realising this strategic investment.
