Filming for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s hit series Outer Banks has officially begun in Dubrovnik, reaffirming the city’s reputation as one of the world’s premier filming locations.
Creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate recently confirmed that the upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last, promising fans the “most exciting and best season yet.”
Dubrovnik mayor, Mato Franković, proudly shared the news on Facebook, highlighting Dubrovnik’s continued success in blending tourism, culture and the creative industries.
“Dubrovnik has once again proven itself as a world-class film backdrop,” he wrote. “Our city has been recognised as a destination that successfully connects tourism, culture and creative industries. The numbers from this tourist season confirm Dubrovnik’s sustainability, which is crucial for the future of our tourism and the quality of life of our citizens.”
Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the adventure-drama follows a group of working-class teenagers known as the “Pogues” as they hunt for the legendary treasure of pirate Blackbeard.
Their quest leads to clashes with the privileged “Kooks” in a story filled with friendship, rivalry and high-stakes adventure.
Since its debut, Outer Banks has been one of Netflix’s most popular series worldwide. The third season, released in March 2023, racked up an impressive 154 million views in its first week, while the fourth season also topped Netflix’s global charts shortly after release.
The series’ main cast includes Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, Mia Challis and Cullen Moss.
