INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Rev. Dr. Clarence Moore, the pastor of New Era Church, and its first lady, Hope Moore, are retiring after 35 years of service.

The Moores have been instrumental in developing a holistic ministry that addresses spiritual, financial, emotional, educational, and relational needs. The church is at 517 W. 30th St., just west of the street’s I-65 underpass.

Clarence founded the Northside New Era Outreach Corp. and co-founded the Ten Point Coalition, while Hope developed one of Indiana’s leading children’s ministries.

During Sunday’s Community Link segment on News 8’s “Daybreak,” Clarence said, “We wanted to create a ministry in the inner city of Indianapolis that would meet the spiritual, financial, emotional, educational, relational needs of our constituents.”

Hope said, “If we can get a child to love God, to be involved in church and to see church as their church, to be involved in the community, then that child, once they grow up, they will come back and they will bring their kids.”

The Moores’ retirement will be celebrated with several events, including an all-day service at New Era Church on Sunday, and a black tie gala at 502 East Event Centre in Carmel on the last weekend of October.

During the segment, Hope also emphasized the importance of ministry to children, noting that typically resources are spent on adults, but more time should be spent spiritually forming children.

Moore expressed hopes to mentor other ministry couples, acknowledging the challenges ministry poses for marriage and family life.
