MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) — Nearly two dozen Vermont towns will see improvements to blighted buildings through $3 million in state funding for rehabilitation and revitalization projects.

The money will support 34 projects in 23 of Vermont’s designated downtown and village centers. Governor Phil Scott said the funding will help generate $70 million in building improvements, breathing new life into older buildings.

Projects include the relocation of a Brandon brewery, the preservation of a historical church in Gilman and the construction of housing across the state.

“I continue to believe housing plays an important role in solving some of the other challenges we face, from education and affordability to growing our workforce,” Scott said. “That’s why it’s so important we stay focused on reducing some of those expensive and unnecessary regulatory barriers, which, at the end of the day, lead to more expensive housing for Vermonters.”

The funding is expected to create or rehabilitate nearly 70 units of housing within existing underutilized and vacant buildings.
