The General Traffic Department said from October 11 to 17, traffic personnel handled 1,715 accidents, including 238 resulting in injuries or deaths and 1,477 with minor material damage.
During the same period, the Al-Anba daily said, 37,263 traffic violations were issued during campaigns supervised by Major General Hamed Al-Dawas, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Public Security Affairs.
The Highway Patrol Department led with 8,523 violations, followed by Hawalli (5,778), Farwaniya (5,641), the Capital Traffic Department (5,549), and Ahmadi (5,134).
Traffic officers detained 92 violators, including 27 juveniles driving without licenses, and seized 62 vehicles, two of which were wanted for theft.
Additionally, 99 cars and 43 motorcycles were referred to the impound garage. Law enforcement officers also arrested 35 wanted persons, 91 expatriates violating residency laws, nine street vendors, two individuals in an abnormal condition, and two found in possession of narcotics.
The Ministry of Interior noted that 1,097 violations were issued to traffic and rescue officers, including 578 for “wrongful overtaking” on Thursday, monitored via overhead surveillance cameras and patrols. Violators face vehicle impoundment for non-payment for up to two months.
Mobile patrols rescue police in the Capital Governorate issued 519 traffic violations, arrested wanted persons, seized eight vehicles, and detained individuals for narcotics and labor law violations.
The General Directorate of Emergency Police confirmed the continuation of round-the-clock security and traffic campaigns across all governorates, underscoring the Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring road safety.
