WHEELING, WV (WOWK) – The WVSSAC golf championships concluded their two-day tournament at the Oglebay Golf Club on Wednesday, and four champions were crowned for the first time in the tournament’s history.
In the first ever Class AAAA tournament, the Hurricane Redskins came away with the crown, shooting a cumulative score of +37. Redskins coach Sam O’Dell led his team to the championship, in large part due to his two sons, Carson and Parker, who each finished in the top three individually. Carson was the Class AAAA medalist with his score of +11.
In Class A, the Charleston Catholic Irish golf team won the state tournament for the first time since 2016. The Irish had a two-day score of +70, and were led by the Class A medalist in Will Gruse, who won the individual tournament by 9 shots over his teammate Ben Carew.
