At the franchise’s first home game as the Utah Mammoth, there was a new presence in the crowd riling up the fans.
“Tusky,” a mammoth with light-blue fur, a dark-blue mohawk, and two white tusks, broke out of a faux ice block that had been rolled out to center ice about 10 minutes before the team’s home opener against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
In its inaugural season, and perhaps fitting with the generic Utah Hockey Club name, the Utah Jazz Bear was the team’s mascot — though at hockey games, he was called the “Hockey Bear.”
Now, though, Utah’s NHL team has a mascot of its own.
The team also revealed a new four-note goal horn, which sounded similar to a train’s horn.
