In a strategic move to boost off-season tourism, thirty representatives from leading southern German coach tour operators—exclusively company owners—visited Hungary’s Lake Balaton region in mid-October. The study trip was jointly organized by VisitBalaton365 Nkft., the official destination management organization for Lake Balaton, in collaboration with German travel agency Wolff Ost-Reisen and inbound specialist Dynamic Tours.
The primary aim of the two-day visit was to offer key players from the German bus tourism sector a firsthand experience of Lake Balaton’s autumn and spring offerings. Organizers hope the trip will encourage the integration of off-season Balaton destinations into future travel packages for the German market.
The professional delegation toured major northern Balaton hotspots, including Badacsony, Balatonfüred, and Tihany (northern shore). Throughout the journey, participants were introduced to newly developed or refreshed attractions, accommodations, and tourism services tailored to meet contemporary expectations.
Initial feedback from the group was overwhelmingly positive. For many participants, it was their first visit to the region in decades, and they expressed genuine surprise and appreciation for the region’s transformation. Several participants noted that the current offerings far surpassed their memories of the area from previous decades.
Highlighting the importance of the delegation, Mercedes-Benz’s German headquarters provided a brand-new luxury coach for the journey, underscoring the group’s prominence within the German travel industry.
This initiative forms part of VisitBalaton365 Nkft.’s broader strategy to reposition Lake Balaton as a year-round international destination—not just a summer hotspot. The organization aims to showcase the region’s diverse attractions and experiences, regardless of season.
The study tour continues in Budapest, organized by Dynamic Tours, a company with decades of experience in hosting German-speaking tourists in Hungary.
