ROSSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — The Rossville Consolidated School District has received a $150,112 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to enhance school safety.
The grant, awarded through the 2025 School Violence Prevention Program by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, will be used to upgrade door infrastructure in key areas of the district’s educational facilities.
Superintendent Jim Hanna said in a statement in a news release, “This award reflects the dedication of our staff and school police department to ensuring that modern, reliable security measures protect every student and employee.”
The funding will specifically target the main gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, and lunchroom, which are high-occupancy areas frequently used for large student gatherings. The project will install new security doors and intrusion-resistant locking mechanisms, designed according to the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools recommendations.
The district had about 950 students in 2024. The Clinton County town of Rossville, with 1,500 residents, is about an hour’s drive northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
