The Culture Ministry confirmed the incident and blamed the excessive use and said that it had ensured the access of people with disabilities or mobility problems through the presence of a specialist, in order to be able to address any technical issue….
Culture Ministry statement
The Ministry of Culture confirmed the elevator’s failure in a statement, noting, among others, that there are frequent problems due to its excessive use.
At 10:50, a phase of the power supply to the Archaeological Site was interrupted, due to PPC works, resulting in the elevator being put out of operation. The power outage caused damage to the elevator and despite the intervention of the technician and the assistance of the Ephorate staff, the damage could not be repaired until the end of the Space’s operation.
It is noted that the slope elevator has been built with special specifications to serve wheelchairs of disabled people, and in general to serve people with special mobility problems. However, it is used intensively by visitors who report difficulty in climbing, as a result of which the excessive use of the elevator requires frequent maintenance, but also causes related problems.
