Prague has made a name for itself in recent years as a highly attractive filming location, with various major projects using settings in the city.
The biggest offering in recent years has been Apple TV+’s Foundation, a sci-fi series set in the distant future.
It was recently confirmed that Foundation has been renewed for a fourth season, and that it will continue to use Prague for shooting. This is excellent news for the city, as it may allure other television developers to come here as well.
Foundation Renewed for Fourth Season
The third season of Foundation recently ended, and it was confirmed immediately that it will be followed by a fourth outing. According to reports, production will begin in early 2026, with a potential release date later in the year or early 2027. Given Apple’s solid track record of releasing new seasons as promptly as possible, fans may not have too long to wait.
It’s also been noted that there was no announcement that the fourth season would be the last either, meaning that there could potentially be a lot further for this series to go. Critics agree that it is improving with time, and that it could soon be regarded as one of the best titles on the platform.
Series Has Made Excellent Use of Prague as a Setting
Prague has been a filming location for Foundation since season two, and it was used for season three as well. These instalments were primarily filmed at Prague Studios, but various other locations around the Czech Republic were also used. Thanks to the diversity on offer throughout the country, numerous places have been able to represent the various planets on offer in the show.
Thanks to the success of Foundation so far, Prague has been able to show that it has the power to handle high budget productions. And with the range of idyllic filming locations around the country, there could be more to come in the future.
Apple TV+ Has Had Great Success with Sci-Fi Offerings
Apple TV+ has gone heavy on its sci-fi content over the last few years, and is arguably the best streaming service for fans of the genre. The company is known for doing extensive research into the wider entertainment industry, and its experts must have realised that sci-fi is one of the best genres to attract modern viewers. It’s true that outside of the world of television, sci-fi is prevalent in other key industries. For instance, there are various slot games that use sci-fi themes, such as The Walking Dead Cash Collect and Rick and Morty Strike Back.
Aside from Foundation, Apple TV+ viewers can watch excellent sci-fi series such as Severance and Silo. The great thing about all of these different shows is that they explore different subgenres of sci-fi, with Severance being more of a psychological offering and Silo focusing on an apocalyptic scenario. That means that subscribers to the service can find a lot of variety in the sci-fi options available.
Apple TV+ has had significant success from filming Foundation in Prague, and the series has helped put the city on the map for big budget series developers. Hopefully other streaming services will explore this.
