CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — The Freedom Car Show was held in Charleston on Saturday, bringing everyone in the community together for a good cause.
Show cars rolled in during registration around 9 a.m. while live music and food vendors were up and running just before noon. Awards were handed out later in the afternoon for the best cars in their respective categories as well as some other awards, like the Children’s Choice Award.
The event was free to the public and all proceeds from the show went to the Community Living Services Program, which helps individuals with disabilities gain greater independence.
“Well, it was all by accident really with my truck. When I got it, and it still happens today, I go driving around town, stop at the gas station and people start pulling their cameras out, taking pictures and videos. And the position that I’m in, working with people with disabilities, gave me the idea, ‘this could be a tool to have a car show and raise money for people with disabilities,'” Jerry Boyko of the West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council said.
Organizers said this could become an annual event, and they already have their eyes on next year.
