Hoosiers get College GameDay nod for road trip to Oregon – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The No. 8 Indiana Hoosiers will be the headline of college football’s slate next Saturday as ESPN’s College GameDay will feature the top-10 matchup between IU and No. 2 Oregon in Eugene.

The Hoosiers are expected to move up in the rankings this week after UCLA upset No. 7 Penn State 42-37 Saturday, making the matchup even bigger come Saturday.

IU gets the nod after starting the season perfect for a second straight year. The Hoosiers entered this week’s bye with a 5-0 record thanks to a gritty 20-15 win on the road at Iowa last weekend.

Indiana’s run game has dominated opponents so far this season. The Hoosiers have racked up at least 300 yards on the ground in the first four games and have averaged 6.1 yards a carry through the first five. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has completed 73% of his passes for 1,208 yards and 16 touchdowns in five games. He’s also ran for 102 yards and two scores.

Similarly, the Ducks also had the week off after handing Penn State its first loss of the season last week during the Nittany Lions’ White Out in Beaver Stadium. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore has thrown for 1,210 yards and 14 touchdowns, completing 74.6% of pass attempts. He’s been sacked only once and thrown only one interception.

This will be the third time in two seasons the Hoosiers will be the marquee game for the weekly show. Last year, the College GameDay crew came to Bloomington last October when the Hoosiers hosted the Washington Huskies. Then the top-5 battle between then-No. 5 IU and No 2 Ohio State was the main game when the Hoosiers traveled to the Horseshoe.

Kickoff between Indiana and Oregon is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern.
