PINGREE (NewsDakota)- The beginning of the busiest week of the season for Cardinal volleyball began with a local derby on Monday.
Unfortunately, their hosts did not give them a soft landing for the week.
Brynn Sorenson and Destiny Opp combined for 36 kills and the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder (14-5) defeated Carrington 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21) on Monday night in Pingree, snapping the Cardinals (11-2) nine-match winning streak.
A tic-for-tac first set turned towards the Thunder with a five-point run as Opp had back-to-back kills and in the second set, Sorenson took over with seven kills in the set.
The third set saw Carrington control the entirety, from a 4-0 lead to a 15-7 advantage before M-P-B rallied to within one, but the Cardinals closed it out. The fourth set was highlighted by more hitting from the Thunder and great setting by Violet Bohl and M-P-B avenged a loss in the Valley City Tournament.
Carrington return to Region 2A play on Thursday at Hillsboro/Central Valley with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45pm.
