CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – High school football is going into its sixth week of the 2025 season with games happening all over Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia Friday night.
Starting in West Virginia, we see the Cabell Midland Knights looking for their first win by taking on Hurricane’s Redskins. Redskins Quarter Back Isaiah Kutscher throws to AJ Gregory, but it’s Midland’s Mason Bryant that takes the ball to the end zone for a Knights touchdown. Cabell Midland gets their first win of the season 62-7.
Over to Underwood Field, the Nitro Wildcats playing their first home game this year against Ripley. First drive for the Wildcats ends in a touchdown for Running Back Chris Radcliffe, his first of many tonight. Nitro takes down Ripley 48-6.
The Capital Cougars looking for their fourth straight win against South Charleston. South Charleston’s Malichai Hall kicks the ball across the field, and it is picked up by Capital’s Damian Johnson, who runs it all the way across the field, scoring Capital their second touchdown. Capital gets their third win in a row, taking down South Charleston 35-24.
The scoreboard at Crawford Field in St. Albans was not working, but that wasn’t bringing down the vibes of Spring Valley and St. Albans tonight. We start in the first quarter, when Spring Valley’s Timberwolves hand it off to Camrin Perdue, who gets in easily, putting the Timberwolves up 14-0. Spring Valley would go on to win tonight, 49-12.
Up in Mason County, the Herbert Hoover Huskies on the road taking on the Point Pleasant Black Knights. First drive for Herbert Hoover, it’s a long pass to Junior Lance Williams for the touchdown. That was a theme throughout the night. Hoover keeps rolling until they get the win 46-7 over Point Pleasant.
Down in Boone County, the Sherman Tide at home taking on the Wayne Pioneers. First drive for Sherman, it’s Quarter Back Elijah Pauley who looks to his right and scrambles out of pressure to throw one down field to Trey Lester, catching it in the endzone for the touchdown. Sherman beats Wayne, 40-20.
Ripley at Nitro
In Ohio now, our game of the week goes out to the Wheelersburg Pirates playing host to the Ironton Fighting Tigers. Opening drive for the Pirates, Elijah Brown is in the redzone when he gets the hand-off from two yards out and punches it in for the Wheelersburg touchdown. Wheelersburg gets the monumental win at home over Ironton 24-15, their first win over the Tigers since 2021.
A big one for the George Washington Patriots, who are on the road against the Barnesville Shamrocks. Patriots’ Cy Persinger not letting an earlier interception get to him when he airs it out again and finds a wide open Sameje’ Wesley, who walks in for six. George Washington would end up winning this game 17-14 over Barnesville, snapping Barnesville’s 42 game winning streak.
The undefeated Notre Dame Titans taking on South Gallia on their home field. First play of the game, it’s kicked off to Notre Dame’s Luke Cassidy, who receives and runs across the field to score immediately. Notre Dame stays undefeated with a 56-46 win at home over South Gallia.
Up in Portsmouth, the Trojans looking to get a home win against Chesapeake. Portsmouth is 1st and 10 at Chesapeake’s 23 yard line when QB Marques Locklear hands the ball off to Fernando Poxes, who brings it in for a touchdown run, putting Portsmouth up 21-0. Portsmouth shuts out Chesapeake in a win at home, 49-0.

In Kentucky, a big one out in Putnam stadium in Ashland. The Tomcats and Greenup County Musketeers meet every single season, and the Tomcats have won every match up since 1999. Ashland wastes no time as Cameron Davis takes it to the house on the first play of the opening drive. Davis has been hot, having yet another multi-touchdown game this week. Ashland wins their 27th in a row over Greenup County Musketeers, 35-21.
A big game down in Paintsville as Johnson Central is hosting Boyd County. In the second quarter, Austin Slone hands the ball off to Collin Cantrell, who shows some power and pushes into the endzone for the touchdown, giving the Golden Eagles the first points of the game. A lot of pushing back and forth, but the Golden Eagles take the win with a final score of 21-14.
