LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraskans are remembering the life of a beloved former Husker football player and radio analyst on Friday.
Matt Vrzal, an offensive lineman for Nebraska from 1992 to 1996 and the host of the Husker Hangover radio show, has died.
The Grand Island native also served as an assistant football coach at Omaha Skutt Catholic School and owned Piezon’s Pizzeria.
The announcement was made by 1620 the Zone in a post on Facebook late Thursday evening.
“Our hearts are with his family and all who loved him,” the radio show said. “He will be missed, but never forgotten.”

Several of Vrzal’s colleagues and friends have posted messages of support on social media.
Mike Schaefer, who covers Nebraska football recruiting for 247Sports, remembered Vrzal in a post on X.
“What a loss for so many people,” Schaefer wrote. “Thoughts with his family and many friends. What a guy.”
Korver Demma, a Gretna High School alum and now a defensive lineman for Central Michigan, said Vrzal believed in him when “no one else did.”
“This man mentored me not just in the game of football, but in the game of life, and for that I am forever grateful,” he said.
