Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan holds talks with UN Under Secretary-General
AKIPRESS.COM – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima held a meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on September 22, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized the constructive and long-standing experience of strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, as well as its specialized agencies on a wide range of fields.
The interlocutors noted that the successful holding of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which took place on the Turkmen coastline of the Caspian Sea on August 4-8, was a proof of Turkmenistan’s active role in strengthening cooperation with the UN and its significant contribution to solving global issues.
The parties discussed the practical implementation of the key outcome documents of LLDC3 – the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Programme of Action for 2024-2034. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of joint work in these areas and expressed interest in exchanging views and priority measures for their implementation.
In addition, the Turkmen side expressed readiness to actively engage the platform of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly to promote decisions and initiatives developed within the framework of LLDC3, including through the arrangement of joint events dedicated to sustainable development matters.
The sides also expressed readiness to expand joint work within the UN system, promoting confidence-building, deepening international partnership and steadily advancing the global sustainable development agenda.
