Western Kentucky junior midfielder Georgia Liapis was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Western Kentucky junior midfielder Georgia Liapis has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor comes following her play in the Hilltoppers’ women’s soccer conference opener against Kennesaw State last week.
“Georgia has been impactful on the attacking side of the ball,” WKU coach Jason Neidell said in a news release. “She is really good on the ball for us and helps build our attack from middle to attacking third. She has worked hard on her finishing, and it’s good to see it paying off for her. We are proud of her.”
This marks the first weekly honor for the junior from Plainfield, Illinois. The last Hilltopper to be named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week was Katie Erwin on Oct. 24, 2023.
Liapis scored her fifth goal of the season in WKU’s 2-1 win over Kennesaw State this past Sunday. Liapis scored one goal on three shots in 84 minutes in the match.
Liapis leads the team in both goals scored (five) and total shots (24) this season. She also currently ranks third in CUSA in shots taken and fourth in the league in goals scored. In just nine matches this season Liapis has matched the total from last year’s leading scorer.
WKU will be back in action on Saturday at home against rival Middle Tennessee. Kick-off from the WKU Soccer Complex is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
