CAF Champions League: Aigle Noir Held to Scoreless Draw Despite Dominance at Intwari Stadium

Aigle Noir CS controlled possession and created the bulk of scoring chances but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against ASAS Djibouti on Sunday in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round matchup.

The result leaves the tie wide open heading into the return leg in Djibouti, where both sides will look to break the deadlock and advance in Africa’s top club competition.

Backed by a packed Intwari Stadium, Aigle Noir the reigning champions of the 2024-25 Primus Ligue Burundi pressed from the start and kept ASAS pinned deep for much of the contest. However, the Burundian side was unable to capitalize on its dominance in the final third, with missed opportunities and strong goalkeeping from the visitors keeping the score level.

The match capped a high-energy weekend at Intwari Stadium, which has hosted a series of international fixtures since Friday. Sunday’s Champions League clash drew a strong crowd, including several prominent national figures who turned out to support Aigle Noir’s continental campaign.

With the second leg on the horizon, Aigle Noir will need a sharper edge in front of goal to secure progression. For now, it’s all to play for.
