Dublin Airport Terminal 2 given ‘all-clear’ after security alert

Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 has reopened following a security alert.

The terminal was evacuated on Saturday afternoon as a “precautionary measure” after police were alerted to an item of airline luggage which was causing concern.

Gardaí (Irish police) were assisted by the Irish army’s explosive disposal team.

The item has since been declared safe and normal operations have resumed at the airport, although some disruption is expected for the rest of the day.

“Following a preliminary examination on scene, the piece of luggage was contained and deemed safe for removal from T2 to an alternate location which would not impact on airport operations,” police said.

The piece of luggage was then subject to further examination by the army experts.

Police said enquiries were continuing.

“Based on the information available to An Garda Síochána and other relevant stakeholders, this was an appropriate and responsible approach to the situation which was presented,” they added.

Separately, a Europe-wide software issue is causing minor issues at some airports airports, including Dublin and Cork.
